We are the Jones- of course! We live in the farmhouse called Tynllwyn Hen at Snowdonia Hideaway with our three children. We moved here in 2015 to follow our dream of a life between mountains and sea.
This place has a big influence on us. It shapes our thoughts, feelings actions, experiences, relationships and memories. We live here not because its easy, but because it helps us to create the kind of life we want to lead: adventurous, simple, creative, mindful lives where we gather experiences rather than things.
We have worked over the last few years to restore, care for and bring back to life the smallholding of Tynllwyn Hen. We host volunteers from across the globe who come here to learn skills, share their cultures and to have fun in the big outdoors. The responsibility of being guardians of this place means we can’t travel much anymore, so we love hosting people from different countries and have made so many friends in the process.

Aled is an engineer/inventor with a love for motorbikes and mountain biking. With the gift of a small inheritance from his mother in law, and hard graft since the age of 16, he’s achieved his dream of having not one, but two sheds in which to weld his various metallic creations. Aled is from a local farming family whose first language is Welsh. He’s passionate about rugby and the Welsh culture and loves visiting the local historical sites and castles in the area with the children and cousins.
I (Katy) love exploring at a slower pace, letting my mind wander as I garden and swim the lakes and rivers of Snowdonia. I find the beauty of this place is powerful fuel for my poetry, writing and creativity. I am interested in wellbeing and living well, practice meditation and movement regularly, work as a massage therapist in the beautiful town of Aberdyfi and I also teach Yoga online. We live here because we love being close to nature, to be influenced by its beauty and wisdom. Our children have a natural playground to grow up in, where they can roam free and develop a deep connection with nature in the 4 acres of wild rambling gardens, woodlands and fields. The land has several springs, ancient barns, an orchard – it is a place to relax, have adventures in the big outdoors and to spend time in nature with those you love.
We have given a lot of thought to this venture- from ensuring we use local trades people, artists, sustainable wood and eco-friendly building techniques, to ensuring we promote local businesses and offerings. As our home is on site, we aim to be a small, friendly place for people, rather than a large commercial operation. There is a fine balance to ensuring we have an income for our family, and ensuring we have a thriving town in the off season, plus supporting and keeping the values and traditions of the area going. We support Greener Tywyn, Tywyn Beach Guardians, Cylch Meithrin, Eisteddfod, shop local and other local initiatives.
Being able to offer this amazing place to others as a basecamp for their adventures brings us so much joy. With panoramic views and warm cosy living areas, our accommodation is a true shelter for body and soul, with awe inspiring walks and rides to explore right outside the door.
Snowdonia Hideaway is a comfortable remote rural hideaway suitable for families, couples and solo adventurers-we have something for everyone who loves the wild Snowdonian Landscape. Unapologetically unmanicured, the landscapes surrounding the smallholding are managed for wildlife and livestock with great access to footpaths and mountain biking/ cylcing in Snowdonia. The Tal y Llyn steam railway runs along the bottom of the field, with it’s own halt to flag the train down.
